Mong Kok; Kowloon City; 50+ buildings
As part of a six-month Proof of Concept (POC) project commissioned by the Urban Renewal Authority (URA), our team carried out drone inspections in Yau Ma Tei and Kowloon City, covering over 30 old buildings acquired for redevelopment. Most of these buildings were several decades old, showing signs of structural deterioration. Traditional inspection methods typically require extensive manpower, significant cost, and involve safety risks from high-altitude operations.
In this project, we deployed drones to rapidly capture façade data, which was then uploaded to our AI platform for real-time analysis. The entire inspection process was completed within just two days—a task that would normally take weeks. Only a small on-site team was required, demonstrating substantial manpower savings compared with traditional methods.
Our AI system not only identified common defects such as cracks, spalling, rust, and water seepage, but also applied Temporal AI to compare inspection results over time. This allowed URA to better assess deterioration trends and proactively plan repair work. The success of this POC highlights how drone and AI technologies can deliver safer, faster, and smarter solutions for urban renewal, setting a benchmark for large-scale inspection and maintenance of aging buildings in Hong Kong.
